Mbuti Pygmies Of The Ituri Rainforest

These are the recordings anthropologist Colin Turnbull (who wrote “The Forest People”) made of the pygmy people in the deep congo he lived with for most of his life.  His book was fascinating, showed how song plays such a deep role in their culture.  The ‘molimo’ songs especially are very sacred, only men listen/ can be present while they are sung/ sing them… the women are supposed to believe that the molimo songs are sung by a jungle creature who comes into the camp at certain times of the year.  Really fascinating album, very listenable as well.  Highly recommend a download.  Click da pic.
